OFF//ON — A Neon Group Exhibition at the Hollywood Palladium

OFF//ON was a group neon exhibition I curated and organized at the Hollywood Palladium — one of the largest projects I’ve taken on outside my own studio practice. The show was presented in partnership with the Museum of Neon Art and sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. The core of the show was a series of custom-built neon window displays, each one designed and fabricated by a different artist. Rather than a standard gallery hang, the exhibition took the format of illuminated storefront-style windows lining the venue — turning the space itself into a walkable strip of individually lit works. My role went beyond curating a lineup. For a lot of the artists involved, this was their first time working in neon as a medium, so a major part of the job was working directly with each of them to help translate their ideas into something that could actually be fabricated in glass and light — figuring out how a concept sketched on paper becomes a buildable neon piece, and making sure each artist’s voice came through in the final window rather than getting flattened by the medium’s technical demands. Producing a show at this scale — 10 artists, each with a custom-built window, on a live production timeline — meant running point on everything from artist coordination to fabrication logistics to the install itself.
